Global wine table etiquette
2020-04-01

Wine is a common western food drink, so it is usually ordered first, and then according to the needs of the dishes.

According to the usual practice, before opening the bottle, let the guest read the wine label first, confirm whether the wine is consistent with the ordered wine in terms of type, year, etc., then check whether there is any leakage trace at the seal of the bottle cap, whether the wine label is clean, and then open the bottle.

Open the bottle and take out the cork, let the guest see if the cork is wet. If it is wet, it proves that the bottle of wine has adopted a more reasonable way of preservation, otherwise, it may deteriorate due to improper preservation. Guests can also smell the cork for peculiar smell, or have a test drink to further confirm the quality of the wine. Only when it is confirmed that there is no mistake can the wine be poured formally.

Please put the glass on the table when filling. If you don't want to continue, just shake the edge or cover the glass with your hand. It should be noted that before drinking, the oil stains on the corners of the mouth should be wiped off with napkins, so as not to hinder the view and affect the feeling of the wine fragrance.

Western countries usually choose between the main course and beet. When toasting, hold the glass up to your eyes and look at each other. Drink at least one sip of wine to show respect.

In terms of the variety of wine, it should be arranged in the order of light first, then heavy, sweet first, then dry, white first, then red; in terms of quality, it should generally follow the rule of drinking more and more high-end wine, first ordinary wine, and high-end wine at the end of the meal. For example, Changyu Cabernet Sauvignon, known as "the treasure of red wine", is a high-end wine because it is carefully brewed with international boutique grapes. Drinking it at the end of the meal will bring endless aftertaste. It should be noted that when changing the variety of wine, it is necessary to use another cup, otherwise it will be considered as a serious defect of service.

China's wine etiquette generally follows the international practice, but there are differences in service order. The service such as pouring wine is generally the guest of honor, host, accompanying guest and other personnel. In the family banquet, first for the elder, then for the younger; first for the guest, then for the host. The more popular service order in the world is female guest first, then the host, then the lady first, then the husband; the elder first, then the child; women are in the priority position. In addition, our country often has the habit of persuading people to drink at banquets, and many countries around the world use this as a taboo, so we should deal with it as appropriate.
